My bike began stuttering and cutting out last week. It sounded like a V-twin and felt as if I had 75% power. I figured it was a faulty fuel pump. After getting home I restarted the bike and got an F1 light...Code 54 (#4 stick coil).
- Gas was good.
- Plugs were good.
- Unplugged PCV and plugged in stock FI plugs.
- I swapped #3 & #4 coil sticks and I still got Code 54.
- Just to be sure, I checked winding resistance on all coils, and they were good.
Turns out that wire #68 (#4 stick coil) that plugs into the ECU had backed out of the plug 1/4 inch...and was not making contact with the ECU. I fully inserted the wire back into the plug and then put my bike back together. It fired right up and the F1 light disappeared. Bike is back to normal and I have smooth/full power once again. Posting this thread for a search reference. Hope this helps someone.
Thanks to ducatibrandon for his post.

It got me looking in the right direction...and then I used the service manual from there. How do I send a rep to him?
Anyways, can you imagine what this would have cost if I'd gone to the dealer?
